More king tides on the way

01/15/2023: The period from January 19-23 will be bringing more king tides to the area. King tides are exceptionally high tides that occur during the winter months, and at 56S they typically mean flooding and driftwood / debris on the runway. It may take a few days for the city to get things cleaned up, so use caution if you're planning to fly in during this period.

Increasingly, we get flooding even during normal high tides, especially after periods of heavy rain. If you are planning to fly in, be sure to check NOTAMs and consider checking with the airport manager, who handles monitoring and cleanup.
